Max B at the BET Awards 2026 - Peacock Theater, Los Angeles

BET Awards 2026

June 28, 2026 - Los Angeles

A Night That Reminded the World

Max B made a landmark return to the BET Awards stage, delivering a show-stopping performance of Ever Since U Left Me alongside French Montana, with Rick Ross joining the moment for Minks in Miami. The three were draped in fur coats surrounded by pyrotechnics at the Peacock Theater - a night that reminded the world exactly who Wave God is. French Montana and Max B also received a Best Group nomination, a testament to a legacy that only grows stronger with time.

Bio

Max B is one of hip-hop's most consequential figures, the Harlem-born architect who gave the culture a language, a sound, and a movement. Born Charley Wingate on May 21, 1978, in the Abraham Lincoln Houses, Max B, known to the world as the Wave God, the Silver Surfer, Biggavell, built a legacy that outlasted his presence. He coined the word "wavy," a term so embedded in the global cultural lexicon it is nearly impossible to trace back to a single source. That is by design. Influence that profound tends to dissolve into the air it created. French Montana, A$AP Mob, Bobby Shmurda, and a generation of artists who shaped modern rap all point to Max B as an originator, a blueprint, a force they studied before they were known.

After a 16-year absence that only deepened the mythology, Max B returned to music in November 2025, and the culture responded as if no time had passed at all. His lead single "Ever Since U Left Me" featuring French Montana became his first career number one, reaching the top of both the Billboard Rhythmic Airplay and Mediabase Rhythmic Radio charts while accumulating over 36 million streams and 220 million TikTok views. Rolling Stone named it one of the Best Songs of 2026 So Far. He followed it with "Minks In Miami" featuring Rick Ross and French Montana, which climbed to number one on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, a second number one on a second Billboard chart, both within months of his return. The video trended at number eight on YouTube's Music Trending chart, and Max B sat down with ABC News to mark the moment for the record.

In May 2026, Max B and French Montana released Wave Gods 2: Cosmos Brothers on Coke Boys Records, a full-length collaborative project featuring Rick Ross and Ye that served as both a reunion and a coronation. The album arrived weeks after Coke Wave 3.5: Narcos, a joint release that had already put the culture on notice. His alignment with French Montana's Coke Boys Records and Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group through Gamma represents not just commercial infrastructure but a convergence of hip-hop's most proven and powerful networks.
