How it started
They should not have worked together at all. Max B was signed to Jim Jones' ByrdGang. French Montana had his own history with Jones going back to 2003. Shared friends, opposite corners.
Then in 2008 Max B left ByrdGang and the arrangement flipped overnight. Same enemy, same neighborhood energy, opposite skill sets.
Their first record together was "Waavvyy," off French's Live From Africa, April 29, 2008. The first song they ever made was named after the thing they would spend eighteen years building. The deep history of the partnership covers that era in full.

Why it works
Most rap duos are two people with the same job standing next to each other. This is not that.
Max B is a melody. He sings hooks that were not written down, in a register that sits above the beat rather than inside it. French Montana is presence and delivery, a voice that carries a record without ever raising itself.
